About This Call

The 55th Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art takes place September 26-27, 2026 in Historic Downtown Madison, Indiana, with festival hours from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. This autumn festival attracts more than 40,000 guests and features 200 fine artists and craftspeople from all 50 states. Artist booths line Broadway, Elm, Vine and Vaughn Streets along the downtown river area overlooking the Ohio River.

The festival showcases high-quality original art in the following eligible categories: painting (2D artists may sell prints but must include originals), drawing, photography, sculpture, weaving, folk art, jewelry, fiber, wood, baskets, clay, glass, paper, printmaking, mixed media, and leather. The number of artists in each category is limited to protect the integrity of the show. All work must be handmade and individually designed by the artist. Multiples of the same general design must be signed by the artist. Items made from kits, patterns, or mass-produced items are not allowed. Nudes in product are prohibited. Only work of the quality and type illustrated in submitted digital prints may be exhibited.

Booth spaces are 10' x 15' for $375, with larger 10' x 20' booths available for $450. Corner spaces, two open-sided booths, and half corner booths are available for additional fees. Artists must furnish their own tent (which must be white with no logos or branding) and booth setup. All tents must be appropriately anchored as the show is along the river and can become quite windy. Electricity is not available and generators are not permitted, but battery-powered lighting is acceptable. Artists must be present with their work during the complete show from 10 am through 5 pm on both days. Admission is free. The event is held rain or shine with no rain site or alternate date. Pets are not allowed in the show site (service animals are always welcome). Application deadline is June 30, 2026. An early jury option is available for applications submitted by March 1st, with the final jury held the first week in July. Jury fee is $25. Contact: (800) 559-2956.
