About This Call
Made in VA: Inaugural Biennial is a juried exhibition celebrating artwork created by Virginia artists. Starting in fall 2024, Made in VA transitions to a biennial event, expanding gallery space to showcase a wider range of artistic voices and offering more prizes and professional opportunities for participating artists. The exhibition will be on view July 12, 2024–January 5, 2025.
Eligible artists must be over 18 and currently residing in Virginia. All artistic mediums created between 2022-2024 are accepted. Work sample requirements include a minimum of 1 and maximum of 5 total samples (up to 5 images, 3 audio files, or 3 video files). Two-dimensional work must not exceed 84 inches in any dimension including frame and must not exceed 75 lbs. Three-dimensional work must be no larger than 84 inches including base and must not exceed 75 lbs. Installations and video/sound works are accepted, with a limit of 3 video/sound entries per application. Artists are responsible for delivery and return shipping of accepted artworks.
Prizes include The Goode Prize for Best in Show ($10,000), which includes an individual virtual studio visit with each juror and a solo exhibition concurrent with the 2026 Biennial; 2nd place ($3,000); 3rd place ($1,500); and three Honorable Mentions ($750 each). Additional prizes include Director's Prize ($1,000) and People's Choice ($750). All selected artists receive an opportunity to participate in a virtual group studio visit with a renowned artist and Virginia MOCA individual membership. Entry fee is $35. Acceptance notification will be sent April 15, 2024. A panel of three jurors representing regional and national perspectives will review submitted materials and select artists for the exhibition.
