MAD Artist Residency

The MAD Artist Residency invites artists to submit original work that explores contemporary themes from aesthetic, conceptual, environmental, scientific, philosophical, and/or poetic perspectives. Selected artwork will be eligible for onsite exhibitions of either Wild Pink or Elemental, Water at the Mad River Valley Arts gallery in Waitsfield, Vermont in September and November. The juried exhibition will appear in Vermont press and in an art magazine.

Accepted media include painting, drawing, illustration, graphic design, fashion design, mixed-media 2-D, photography, sculpture (ceramics, wood, metals, glass, recycled/readymade combinations), textiles, installation, industrial arts, interdisciplinary practice combining sciences/history with art, and mechanical technologies such as robotics and video. Artwork will be judged on strong craft, innovative practice, thoughtfulness, and pertinence to earth-centric themes in the context of environment and cultural exploration. The jury seeks creative inquiry that demonstrates transformative power and potential in nature/culture relationships from ecological, technological, psychological, and/or philosophical perspectives.

Eligibility: All artists in contemporary art fields must be over 18 years old. Entry fee is $40 for up to two images or two video files; a third image costs an additional $5. Submit 2-3 total samples (minimum 1 image, maximum 3 images; maximum 2 videos). Entry images must show only the work itself with no background. Files must be JPEG/JPG or Vimeo (no longer than 2 minutes), 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side, under 5 MB, with sRGB color profile. Artworks created within the last three years are preferred. Submit artist resume, artist statement, and artist bio. Residency dates: August 1-23, 2024. Notifications will be emailed on or before June 30, 2024.
