About This Call
The City of Pompano Beach is commissioning an artist located in the tri-county area to design and paint a Painted Pompano fish sculpture for display at Lyons Park. The pompano fish is the City's namesake and symbol of Pompano Beach identity. The theme for the design is air, land, and sea.
The selected artist will receive a prefabricated fish sculpture (5 feet tall, approximately 3 feet wide, constructed of foam with three coats of polyurethane and primed with Zinsser bulls eye primer white) and will have 30 days to complete the painted design. An anti-graffiti and UV resistant coating must be applied. The artist must provide their own workspace and is responsible for pickup and delivery of the sculpture. The selected artist will be paid $1,500 upon completion and approval.
Artists may submit up to three designs using the provided templates, which must include designs for both sides of the fish and a list of materials. Submissions must include an artist statement, examples of previous artwork (minimum 1, maximum 3), and proposed design on the templates provided. Designs will be evaluated based on design quality, artist statement, examples of previous artwork, and materials to be used. Designs must be appropriate for public display; religious, political, or sexual designs will not be accepted. The structure may not display text, words, alpha-numeric characters, corporate logos, or advertising. The City reserves the right to reject any design that does not adhere to these standards. Artists should be available for possible touch-up work once the exhibit is underway. Installation will be managed by the City.
