About This Call
This is a juried pastel exhibition open to all pastel artists 18 years or older. Artists may submit up to three entries. The juror of selection and judge of awards is Jeanne Rosier Smith, an accomplished pastel artist and IAPS Master Circle member whose work has won numerous awards including the Prix de Pastel from the International Association of Pastel Societies and two Art Spirit Foundation Gold Medals for Excellence in Pastel.
Eligibility requirements: All paintings must be at least 80% soft pastels only (no oil pastels). Only original pastel work created directly by the submitting artist is eligible. Paintings must have been completed within the last three years (no work done earlier than September 4, 2021). Work that has won awards in other national or international pastel exhibitions, or previously won awards in JUDGED PSSC shows, is not eligible. Work copied from other artists, based on published images, created in classes or workshops under instructor supervision, or created using Artificial Intelligence software is ineligible. All subjects and styles are eligible, from traditional to contemporary, though PSSC reserves the right to exclude artwork deemed unsuitable or in violation of US laws.
Entry fees: PSSC members pay $40 for the first entry and $10 each for second and third entries. Non-members pay $50 for the first entry and $10 each for additional entries. Members must have paid 2024 dues in full to qualify for member rates. All entries and fees must be submitted through ShowSubmit.com by the September 4, 2024 deadline. Fees are non-refundable. Image submissions must be high-quality JPEG files at least 1500 pixels on the longest edge with a maximum file size of 30 MB, showing only the artwork without matting, frames, or background. Awards include Best in Show ($1000 or sponsor-provided prize of equal or greater value), 1st ($500), 2nd ($300), 3rd ($200), and up to 3 Awards of Excellence. No commission is taken on sales during the exhibit. Contact Joan Dromey at [email protected] for questions about the prospectus, eligibility, or artwork requirements.
