About This Call
LUMCON invites artists to submit work for a public art installation commission at Blue Works, a new 27,000 square foot building and expansion of Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium located in the Port of Terrebonne. The project budget is $80,000 (all-inclusive).
The installation should capture the mission and core values of Blue Works while marrying coastal and ocean themes with digital, computational, technological, and engineering themes. Artists are encouraged to utilize kinetic and light elements to convey movement and energy. The installation will be located in the atrium/front lobby area and should serve as a focal point that generates awe and excitement upon entry. The piece must be durable, sturdy, stable, suitable for climate conditions, resistant to UV damage, and safe for public interaction.
Submission requirements include: a chronological resume demonstrating a minimum of five years of professional visual art experience; a letter of interest and artist statement; three professional references; and six images of original completed commissions (not proposals, sketches, or 3-D models) with title, medium, dimensions, project budget, year completed, location, and description. Notifications will be issued no later than the end of January 2020. Finalists will receive a $1,500 honorarium and will be invited to attend a mandatory site visit and optional presentation of their proposal before the selection committee. Special consideration will be given to Louisiana artists as defined by La. R.S.25:9000.1(E).
