Lumbeeland: The Hidden Beauty of Swamps Juried Art Show

Red Springs Artspace announces a call for artists for "Lumbeeland: The Hidden Beauty of Swamps," a regional juried exhibition that showcases swamps as a vital geographic element intricately woven into local history and folklore. The Lumbee River and its surrounding swamps have been integral to the geography, culture, and historical narrative of the Lumbee Indians, the largest-known Native American tribe in North Carolina. The exhibition will be held November 1-30, 2024 at Red Springs Artspace, 200 S. Main Street in Red Springs, NC.

Open to all artists 18 years of age and older. Artwork must be solely the creation of the artist and original in conception, composition and implementation. No prints or reproductions. To be eligible for prizes, all works, whether figurative or relatively abstract, must take swamps as their theme. Entry fee is $30.00. Submit 1-2 images of your work. Online registration runs August 20-October 10, 2024. Acceptance notifications will be sent via email on October 11, 2024. Drop-off is October 18, 2024 between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Opening reception is Friday, November 1st from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Pick-up of unsold work is December 2nd, 2024 between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

2D artwork may not weigh more than 20 lbs. nor be more than 5 feet in any direction and must be securely wired and professionally mounted. 3D artwork may not weigh more than 30 lbs. nor be more than 2 feet in diameter and must be able to be displayed on a pedestal. Sculptures of five feet or taller that stand safely on the floor and do not exceed the weight limit may be considered. Unstable/freestanding sculptures requiring special mounting or suspension, and illuminated pieces requiring electrical connections, will not be accepted.
