About This Call

Lucid Art Foundation invites artists to apply for a 3-week residency stay, typically between March and November, in Inverness, California. The program encourages nonrepresentational artmaking exploration through mixed-media, conceptual, eco-art, and interdisciplinary approaches in serene, retreat-like surroundings that enable artists to unplug from daily routines and find deeper connection with nature.

Residents will live in a house located on the Foundation campus with WiFi, bedroom, living room, bathroom, wood-burning stove, full kitchen with cooking utensils, parking, laundry facilities, and provided linens. The studio space, called the "Ark," was built in 1960 and features a wood-burning fireplace, sink, high ceilings with upper loft, wood walls, skylights, and private deck. A print shop with a Sturges press is available for experienced printmakers using water-based mediums only. The Foundation will curate an online exhibition of residency work. Artists will meet with a Lucid Art professional artist associate for feedback and participate in weekly tea and conversation with staff and artists. A tour of Gordon Onslow Ford's studio will be provided.

Eligibility: 18+ years old, US or Canadian resident, have not previously participated in the residency, have use of a car for the entire stay, and hold an MFA or equivalent in independent studio work with exhibition history. Artists must work in visual arts, eco-art, video/new media, writing, poetry, music composition, or choreography. Oil-based paints, turpentine, spray paint, and volatile or strong-smelling media are not permitted. No large power tools are allowed on campus. There is no stipend and meals are not provided. Artists must be COVID tested (home version) before entering Foundation buildings, and masks are required indoors when staff are present. Application deadline: November 6, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Entry fee: $40. Applicants will be notified of the jury's decision in January 2025.
