About This Call

Lucid Art Foundation offers a 3-week artist residency in Inverness, California, encouraging nonrepresentational ways of exploration through mixed-media, conceptual, eco-art, and interdisciplinary approaches. The residency provides a house with WiFi, bedroom, living room, bathroom, wood burning stove, full kitchen, parking, laundry facilities, and linens. Artists work in the "Ark" studio, a large space with wood burning fireplace, sink, high ceilings with upper loft, wood walls, skylights, and private deck. There is no WiFi in the studio. The residency is designed to enable artists to unplug from daily routines and find deeper connection with nature in serene, retreat-like surroundings.

Eligibility requires applicants to be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada, have not previously participated in the Lucid Art Foundation residency, have use of a car for transportation, and have an MFA or equivalent in independent studio work and exhibition history. The Foundation no longer accepts applicants using oil-based paints, turpentine, spray paint, or media with volatile or strong odors. Large power tools are not allowed on campus. Artists must be Covid tested (home version) before entering Foundation buildings, and masks are required indoors when staff are present.

During the residency, artists will meet with a Lucid Art professional artist associate for feedback on their work and participate in weekly tea and conversation with staff and artists. The Foundation will curate an online exhibition of residency artists' work from either their residency period or work created after. There is no stipend and meals are not provided. Entry fee is $40. Applicants must submit 10 images of work created within the last two years, up to 2 videos, artist statement (max. 1,000 characters), bio and recent exhibition history from the last 5 years (max. 1,000 characters), residency project proposal, three professional references, and answers to residency questions.
