About This Call
Lucid Art encourages nonrepresentational ways of exploration through mixed media, conceptual, eco art, and interdisciplinary approaches. Artists will focus on learning about the practice of Lucid Art with an emphasis on the integration of art, process, and inner awareness. By shifting artistic paradigms, a deeper base is nurtured for understanding individual creative growth and development as well as the role of the artist in society.
The residency is a 3-week stay for artists in a serene, retreat-like surrounding to delve into a contemplative state with their studio work. Solitary explorations in a remote place enable artists to unplug from their daily routines and find a deeper connection with nature. The residency will provide a cottage with one bedroom, living room, bathroom, and full kitchen, located in the center of the Foundation campus. The cottage has a private deck overlooking the Inverness ridge of the Bishop Pine Preserve, electric heat, Wi-Fi, washer and dryer, and all linens provided. A telephone is available for local calls only. The residency artist will use a studio called the "Ark," a large workspace with restroom, work sink, expansive wood walls, high ceilings, upper loft, glass sliding door to a private deck, and natural light from skylights. Modular bases with wooden tops are available for arranging worktables. There is a fireplace and two electric heaters, but no Wi-Fi in the studio. Meals are not provided; artists will need their own transportation to nearby towns for food and supplies. During the residency, artists will meet with a faculty member for feedback on their work. During the first week, artists will be given a tour of Gordon Onslow Ford's studio and home.
Eligibility: 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada. Must have own means of transportation to, from, and during the residency. Must have an MFA or equivalent in independent studio work and exhibition history. The Selection Committee considers artists working in painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, writing, poetry, eco art, and mixed media. The Foundation encourages nontoxic artistic media and will no longer accept applicants using oil-based paints, turpentine, spray paint, or media with volatile or strong odors. No large power tools are allowed on campus. Entry fee: $40. Work samples required: 10 images (required), up to 2 videos, for a total of 10-12 samples. Application deadline: 11/30/22 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
