About This Call

The Lucid Art Residency Program 2020 welcomes artists focusing on climate change whose work spans visual arts, video/new media, music composition, writing, dance, or performance choreography. Multidisciplinary approaches and collaborative projects with scientists, ecologists, and environmentalists are encouraged. Applicants must submit project proposals along with 10 samples of previous relevant work. Entry fee is $40.00.

The residency provides living space in the former studio of writer Jacqueline Johnson and a 650-square-foot art studio called "the Ark," originally built in 1960 as a studio for painter Gordon Onslow Ford and mixed media artist Fariba Bogzaran. A print shop with a Sturges press is available for experienced printmakers; only water-based mediums may be used. Program staff will work directly with selected applicants to determine residency duration.

During the residency, artists receive weekly luncheons at Gordon Onslow Ford's home with food prepared from local organic ingredients tailored to dietary preferences. Artists will meet with a Lucid Art faculty member for feedback on work created during the residency and have access to the Foundation's extensive Library Resource Center, which contains books by modern, surrealist, and contemporary artists. Work sample requirements: visual artists must submit 10 images and one video (max 60 mb) or one audio file (max 30 mb); new media/video, music composition, and choreography applicants should provide a website link for additional video and/or audio files in the project proposal section.
