About This Call
The Lucid Art Residency Program encourages non-representational ways of exploration through mixed media, conceptual, eco-art, and interdisciplinary approaches. Artists will focus on learning about the practice of lucid art with emphasis on the integration of art, process and inner awareness. The residency program is 3 weeks in a serene, retreat-like setting designed to enable artists to unplug from their regular daily routines and find a deeper connection with nature.
Residents will be provided a cottage with one bedroom, living room, two bathrooms, and full kitchen, located in the center of the Foundation campus. The cottage includes a private deck overlooking the Inverness ridge of the Bishop Pine Preserve, electric heat, wood-burning stove, Wi-Fi, washer and dryer, and all linens. Artists will work in a studio called the "Ark," a large workspace originally used by painter Gordon Onslow Ford. The studio features high ceilings, an upper loft, natural light from skylights and glass doors, modular worktables, fireplace, and electric heaters. Meals are not provided, but artists may use the Foundation's organic garden. The Foundation also maintains a pigment/dye garden available for artists to use. During the residency, artists will meet with faculty members for feedback and participate in weekly lunches with staff and faculty. Access to the Foundation's Library Resource Center is available during office hours.
Applicants must be 18 years or older, have an MFA or equivalent in independent studio work with exhibition history, and provide their own transportation to and from the residency. Application materials include a short bio, recent exhibition history from the last 5 years, 10 images of work created within the last two years, a brief residency project proposal, three professional references, and answers to questions. Entry fee is $40.00. The Foundation encourages non-toxic artistic mediums and no longer accepts applicants using oil-based paints, turpentine, or volatile mediums with strong odors. No large power tools are allowed on campus.
