About This Call
The Lucid Art Residency Program provides artists with a serene, retreat-like environment for creative exploration. In line with the mission of the Lucid Art Foundation, artists are supported in their inquiry into consciousness, art and nature. The program encourages non-representational ways of exploration through multi-media, conceptual, eco-art, and interdisciplinary approaches, with emphasis on the integration of art, process and inner awareness.
The residency offers three weeks in a remote location. Artists will live in a cottage with one bedroom, living room, two bathrooms, and full kitchen, featuring a private deck overlooking the Bishop Pine Preserve. The cottage has a heater, wood-burning stove, and Wi-Fi. Artists will work in the "Ark" studio, a large workspace originally used by painter Gordon Onslow Ford, featuring expansive wood walls, high ceilings, an upper loft, and natural light. During the residency, artists will meet with a prominent artist and educator for feedback on their work, participate in weekly lunches with staff and visiting artists, and have access to the Foundation's Library Resource Center containing works by modern, surrealist and contemporary artists. Meals are not provided, but artists may use the Foundation's garden. During the first week, artists will receive a tour of Gordon Onslow Ford's studio and home.
Eligibility: Must be 18 years or older, a resident of California, and have an MFA or equivalent in independent studio work. Artists working in painting, drawing, installation, writing, multimedia, mixed media, or performance will be considered. Application requires a short bio, recent exhibition history from the last 5 years, 5 to 10 images of work created within the last two years, a brief residency project proposal, and three professional references. Entry fee: $40.00.
