About This Call

The Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking artists to create a public art sculpture for the new Stephenson Pet Clinic entrance in Baton Rouge. The sculpture will serve as a welcoming focal point on the front lawn with 360-degree viewing, speaking to the healing work done within the facility.

The artwork should be durable, low-maintenance, and visible from the road while engaging viewers up close. The piece should reflect LSU SVM's history, diversity, and cultural profile, and may incorporate color. Lighting will be required as part of the design, though the piece should not depend on light as the primary design idea. The sculpture must be suitable for climate conditions, resistant to UV damage, and safe for public interaction.

The selected proposal will receive an all-inclusive budget of $90,000 to cover all costs including research, professional consultations, structural and electrical engineering reports, materials, fabrication, transportation, insurance, installation, and documentation. The cost of foundation design, installation, landscape and hardscape access, and lighting are included in this budget. LSU will provide conduit and wiring for one dedicated circuit from the building to the site. Submissions require 6 images and up to 3 videos. An Art Selection Committee including representatives from the Louisiana Office of Facility Planning & Control, the architectural firm, LSU, professional artists, and the State Arts Council will evaluate submissions based on artistic excellence, originality, appropriateness of medium and style, and relevant project experience.
