About This Call
The City of Saint Paul is seeking artists to create integrated public art for the new Lowertown Ballpark, located at 310 East 5th Street, Saint Paul, MN 55101. The ballpark will replace the existing Midway Stadium with a new 7,000-seat facility on a former industrial site in the Lowertown Arts District.
The artwork budget is $170,000.00, which includes artist fees, materials, labor, fabrication, transportation, installation, and related costs. Selected artists will engage in a community-based design process and collaborate with the ballpark design team to integrate public art with the overall design. The project seeks artwork that is experiential, interactive, connects to place and people, and is based on honest engagement with the Lowertown community. Artists should provide an artist statement/project approach, examples of successful process and product, and demonstrate opportunities for participation by emerging artists.
Submissions must include 1-6 images. The deadline for written questions is August 19, 2013. A pre-proposal conference will be held August 26, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Park Square Court Event Center, 400 Sibley Street, Saint Paul, MN 55101. The RFQ submission deadline is September 16, 2013. Short-listed artists will be notified September 20, 2013, and interviews will be conducted September 27, 2013. Contract awards will be announced October 2, 2013. Preliminary art design is scheduled for October 2013 through December 2013, with final design, production, and installation from December 2013 through May 2015. Submissions must be made through www.callforentry.org. For more information about the City's Public Art Ordinance Program, visit www.stpaul.gov/index.aspx?nid=4167. The full RFP and additional information are available at www.lowertownballpark.com.
