LowellArts West Michigan Art Competition 2019

The 33rd Annual LowellArts West Michigan Art Competition is open to visual artists 18 years and older who reside in one of 25 eligible West Michigan counties: Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Cass, Calhoun, Clare, Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Muskegon, Montcalm, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, Ottawa, Saint Joseph, and Van Buren. Artists may submit one original artwork completed in the last two years that has not been previously exhibited at LowellArts. Artwork in any visual art media is accepted, though commercial reproductions and giclée prints are not eligible. Traditional print media, photography, and digital art must be from a limited edition. Two-dimensional entries may be no larger than 62 inches in any direction including frame width. Three-dimensional entries must fit through a standard door frame and be no larger than 62 inches in any direction, and must be easily handled by two people.

The entry fee is $35 ($25 for LowellArts members and students over 18 with college ID). Entries must be submitted digitally through the CaFÉ website by January 28, 2019 at 11:59pm EST. Submit one image for 2D pieces or two images showing different views for 3D pieces. All entries must include title, media, and dimensions. Accepted artists will be notified by email on February 7. Hand-delivery of accepted work is February 14-16, or shipped work must arrive by February 15. The exhibition runs February 23 – March 30, 2019, with a reception and awards ceremony on Sunday, February 24, 2-4pm. Accepted work must remain on display for the duration of the exhibit. LowellArts requires a 30% commission on all artwork sold. Artists may pick up work April 2-4 between 10am-6pm.

Cash awards totaling $2,500 are awarded: 1st Place $1,000, 2nd Place $700, 3rd Place $450, 4th Place $200, 5th Place $150. This year's juror is Rufus Snoddy, a painter and sculptor who is a Professor of Art at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City.
