About This Call

The City of Loveland Art in Public Places seeks mural artists/instructors for two Art in Public Places projects taking place in Spring 2022 (dates TBD). Applicants may apply for one or both projects and should specify their preference in the application.

LOVELAND RECYCLING CENTER: The City seeks an Artist/Artist(s) to design and execute a painted mural on existing concrete panels and side walls of a centralized loading ramp. The mural will include a detailed front section (48' x 6') with color and less detail on the side walls. The desired theme should visually demonstrate the benefit of recycling efforts or illustrate the transition from "trash" to "reusable" materials, and should include portions inviting public participation. The awarded Artist/Artist(s) will design a theme-based mural with elements suitable for public participation, instruct and guide public participants in at least one community painting effort on-site, and complete unpainted sections and finalize design details. Maximum budget: $10,000.

AIPP MURAL - ADULT WORKSHOP: Up to two artists may be selected to teach an interactive, hands-on multi-day workshop open to adult amateur painters. The awarded Artist/Artist Team will design a mural of mid-range complexity providing participants an opportunity to learn how to scale their design to a site, provide instruction on proper materials and methods used during mural fabrication, and guide participants through the mural painting process to completion. The City will provide marketing/registration and the wall or similar large substrate. Maximum budget: $5,000.

For both projects, Artist/Artist(s) must have documented experience teaching relevant skills, thorough knowledge of specific art media and cultural topics, previous experience leading in classroom or presentation settings with children and/or adults, ability to work with diverse groups effectively and diplomatically, and strong customer service skills. Applicants must provide a detailed resume. Colorado artists with mural design and fabrication experience as well as classroom/workshop instruction experience are eligible. The City's Visual Arts Commission may select up to 3 finalists to submit artwork design concepts. Selected finalists must carry general liability insurance of $1 million and work closely with Cultural Services and Public Works throughout the project. Specified budgets include all design, fabrication, insurance, installation, travel, contingency and incidental costs.
