About This Call

The City of Loveland Art in Public Places seeks mural artists for two Art in Public Places projects to be completed by late 2023. Applicants may be considered for one or both projects and may state their preference in the application.

SUNNYSIDE PARK MAINTENANCE BUILDING: A large mural encompassing 3 sides of the Parks Maintenance Building (approximately 1,320 square feet total) is desired. The building is located within Sunnyside Park, a popular neighborhood park. The goal is to create a beautiful piece of art that the community can appreciate and control vandalism within the park. City staff prefers artists with graffiti-style mural work for this project. A community participation element is desired. Budget: $15,000 maximum all-inclusive.

LOVELAND PUBLIC LIBRARY: An artist is sought to create a large mural reflecting the diverse cultural representation of Northern Colorado (Native American, European, Hispanic, African American, and Asian American). The mural should reflect both Loveland's unique past and present, focusing on cultural folk and fairy tales significant to Loveland's population. The wall surface is 9' x 11' (99 sq. ft.), with additional interior walls available (approximately 309 sq. ft. total). A family participation event is desired. Budget: $10,000 maximum all-inclusive.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Artists must have thorough knowledge of specific art media and cultural topics, previous experience leading in classroom or presentation settings with children and/or adults, experience teaching design and workshop skills, ability to work effectively with diverse groups, strong customer service skills, and ability to complete unpainted sections and finalize design details. The City's Visual Arts Commission may select up to 3 finalists to submit design concepts. Selected artists must carry general liability insurance of $1 million and enter into a City contract. All applicants must provide a detailed resume and required materials. Work sample requirement: 10 images. Jury dates: 5/9/23 - 6/6/23.
