Love Field Airport Gateway

The Public Art Program of the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the Dallas Airport System and the Dallas Water Utilities Department, requests submissions of qualifications from artists or artist teams to design, fabricate, and install a work of public art at the entrance to Dallas Love Field at the corner of Mockingbird Lane and Herb Kelleher Way. The project budget is $500,000.

The Love Field Airport Gateway Project aims to create a highly visible artwork that identifies the entrance to Love Field, reflects the current airport aesthetic, and welcomes visitors. The artwork should focus on themes that support the history, legacy, and purpose of the airport and its surrounding communities, while enhancing the airport's identity and showcasing the vibrant culture of Dallas. Dallas Love Field serves as the gateway to Dallas, welcoming more than 16 million passengers annually and was selected as one of the top ten domestic airports by Travel and Leisure Magazine for its public art in 2018.

Artwork must be durable and appropriate for public spaces, virtually maintenance-free, and meet size, weight, and other restrictions for the site, including height restrictions. Lighting is not included in the project scope. Applicants must be professional artists who have completed a public art installation of similar size and scope. Ineligible applicants include artists currently under contract with the City of Dallas Public Art Program, City of Dallas employees and their spouses, members of the Public Art Committee or Arts and Culture Advisory Commission, consultants under contract for any phase of the project, and undergraduate students. Submissions should include 3-6 images. The submission deadline is May 13, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
