Love

Love welcomes artwork that centers on the positive, life-affirming qualities of loving and experiencing love. Artists might consider attributes such as affection, care, belonging, harmony, gratitude, or shared presence. Romantic, familial, communal, or self-directed love may all be explored—with an emphasis on positive resonance. Works may convey love through color, form, movement, or material; through symbolic, conceptual, or narrative means; or through abstract, minimalist, or experimental expressions in any visual-art medium.

Eligibility is limited to San Francisco Bay Area artists only (artist must live within 100 miles from San Rafael, California). The exhibition is open to most subject matter including abstraction and all visual arts media including sculpture. Video artists must include dimensions of equipment, such as a monitor, in submission and must supply all equipment—including headphones—for the exhibition. Projections and speaker audio are prohibited. Original artwork only; no giclées or reproductions, though editions are welcome. Images of explicit sexual content or violence will not be considered. Artwork must not exceed 72" including frame, stand, and all materials. Submissions must not have previously exhibited in the AWD 1337 Gallery.

Entry fee is $40.00. Submissions require 1-3 total work samples (images and/or video). Artwork must be hand delivered to Art Works Downtown at 1337 Fourth St., San Rafael. All work must be ready for installation with wall-hung artwork securely wired. Artists must complete and sign a Consignment Contract during delivery and provide an artist statement and resume for the exhibit binder. Art Works Downtown accepts a 40% donation upon sale. Artists who do not retrieve their work will be charged a storage fee of $5.00 per day; works remaining after 30 days become the property of Art Works Downtown.
