About This Call
The Louisville Cultural Council of Louisville, Colorado seeks to commission an original outdoor sculpture to commemorate the Louisville Marshall Fire that began on December 30, 2021. The sculpture must be an original creation by the artist(s) and must include a Louisville community participation or engagement component.
The town seeks an artist or artist team to install an outdoor sculpture in the Louisville Historic Downtown District. The site will be determined by the artist and Louisville Cultural Council but must be a location owned by the City. Potential locations include 717 Main Street, Louisville, Colorado. The budget for this commission is up to $22,000 USD, inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, insurance, materials, transportation, installation, travel, per diem, and project documentation.
Applications must be submitted via CAFÉ by 11:59 PM MST on October 28, 2022. Each application must include: resume, images and descriptions of previous public art sculptures, photos or renderings of the proposed artwork, sculpture specifications (title, material, size, installation requirements), artist statement (2,500 characters max), description of previous site-specific sculpture installation projects (1,000 words max), and itemized budget. Artists may submit up to three separate entries. Work samples must include a minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 photos or renderings. Selection criteria include artistic excellence, permanence, compatibility with the historic downtown area, public safety, and adherence to the Marshall Fire commemoration theme addressing loss, hope, rebuilding, and community. This project is open to artists residing within a reasonable driving distance of Louisville, Colorado. Application is not open to anyone employed by the City of Louisville or current members of a City Board or Commission.
