Louisville Art in the Park Sculpture Competition

The City of Louisville is conducting an open entry competition to select up to five sculptures valued at no more than $10,000 per sculpture for the Louisville Art in the Park on-loan sculpture program. Pieces will be placed within the new Louisville Community Park located in downtown Louisville, Colorado. Each of the five finalists will receive a $500 honorarium, and an additional $500 will be awarded to the artist receiving the "Louisville Choice Award". Sculptures will be installed in spring 2010 and remain on display for one year unless sold or prior arrangements are made. A well-publicized Grand Opening is scheduled for July 22, 2010.

Sculptures must be garden-sized or larger (at least three feet in one dimension recommended) and ready for outdoor installation. Each piece should be capable of being welded to a 1/4" steel plate for installation, or alternatively mounted using a minimum three-point bolting system with no less than 3/8" bolts. Concrete pads measuring 4' X 4' will be provided for display. Acceptable mediums include metal, stone, ceramic, or other durable materials that can withstand outdoor elements; wood will not be accepted. Edition sizes over 50 will not be accepted. All works will be screened for artistic merit and appropriateness for outdoor display; works with sharp pieces or designs creating public safety hazards will not be considered. A committee of local citizens will select the sculptures.

All pieces must be for sale. Artists will receive a $500 honorarium, and the Louisville Cultural Council will collect 20% commission on all pieces sold. Insurance will be provided by the City of Louisville upon approval of its insurer. Artists are responsible for all shipping expenses. Preference will be given to artists living in Boulder County, Colorado and artists living in the State of Colorado.
