Louisiana Percent for Art Program - Three Dimensional Artwork Commission at SOWELA Technical Community College

The Louisiana Percent for Art Program is seeking artists or artist teams to design and implement a site-specific sculpture or installation for the Nursing and Allied Health Building at SOWELA Technical Community College in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The selected project will interpret the form of the olive-oil lamp, a symbol of Nursing since Florence Nightingale first carried it during the Crimean War. The artwork must be unique, permanent, and require minimal long-term maintenance. The commission budget is $25,000 to $27,500 for a wall-mounted or free-standing three-dimensional artwork in the building's entryway.

This commission is open to professional artists 18 and over with a minimum of five years of demonstrated professional visual art experience. Artist teams may apply and must designate one artist as the lead contact. All artists must submit a résumé, letter of interest and artist statement, list of three professional references, and six images of original completed artwork through the CAFÉ system at www.callforentry.org. The application deadline is November 30, 2018 at 10:59 P.M. CT.

Submissions will be evaluated on artistic excellence and originality, appropriateness of the artist's medium and experience relative to the project, experience with similar-scale projects, and availability to participate in design and implementation. An Art Selection Committee including representatives from the Louisiana Office of Facility Planning & Control, the architectural firm, Southeastern Louisiana University, and the State Arts Council will review submissions. Notifications will be issued in January 2019. Finalists will be required to attend a site visit and present proposals to the Committee.
