About This Call
The Louisiana Percent for Art Program is seeking artists or artist teams to design and implement two site-specific sculptures or installations for the Computer Science and Technology Building at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana. The artwork must be unique, permanent, and require minimal long-term maintenance. One commission offers a budget of $40,000 to $50,000 for a wall-mounted installation in the first floor corridor, and the second offers $85,000 to $100,000 for large-scale work in the building's entryway. Budgets are inclusive of all costs including research, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and documentation.
Eligibility is open to professional artists 18 and over with a minimum of five years of demonstrated professional visual art experience. Artist teams may apply with one designated lead contact. All artists, national and international, are invited to apply. Submissions must include a résumé, letter of interest and artist statement, list of three professional references, and six images of original completed artwork submitted electronically through the CAFÉ system by 10:59 P.M. CT on November 8, 2018.
Design parameters require artwork that considers the site elements, facility uses, community history and diversity, and complements the building's architecture. Artwork must be durable, resistant to UV damage, and safe for public interaction. An Art Selection Committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic excellence, appropriateness to the project, experience with similar-scale projects, and availability to participate in design and implementation. Special consideration will be given to Louisiana artists. Notifications will be issued by January 2019. Finalists will be required to attend a site visit and present proposals to the Committee. A proposal fee of up to $1,500 may be paid to finalists to offset development and travel expenses.
