Louisiana Percent for Art Program: Call to Artists - Louisiana State University Eunice

The Louisiana Percent for Art Program and Louisiana State University Eunice (LSUE) are seeking an artist or artist team to design and implement a site-specific, free-standing sculpture for the exterior of the LSUE Community Education Building. The artwork should communicate energy and vitality and celebrate the spirit of the university and the local community. The committee envisions a work that will be contemporary and dynamic, providing a first and lasting impression to communicate the identity of the university, the community, and its students. The artwork will be viewed from many vantage points and placed at the "gateway" to the new campus. The artwork must be unique, permanent, and require very minimal long-term maintenance, suitable for outdoor conditions with direct sun exposure.

The project budget is $60,000.00 and includes all costs associated with the project including research, professional consultations, formal reports from a licensed structural engineer and conservator, materials, fabrication, transportation, travel, insurance, installation, photography and documentation, and crediting plaque. The available space is edged in a raised brick seating area with a working envelope measuring 31'-10.5" x 31'-10.5" at the base with no vertical restriction.

This commission is open to qualified professional artists 18 and over. Artist teams may apply and must designate one artist as the lead contact. All visual artists must have a minimum of ten (10) years of demonstrated professional art experience and examples of previous experience with outdoor sculpture. Examples of work submitted must be of original, recently completed artwork within the last 10 years. Submissions must include a chronological résumé, letter of interest with artist statement, list of three professional references, and six digital images of original completed artwork created in the last 10 years. Applications must be submitted through the CAFÉ online application system by October 21, 2013 at 10:59 P.M. CT. An Art Selection Committee will review eligible submissions and invite a limited number of artists to develop a proposal for the commission.
