About This Call

The Louisiana Percent for Art Program is seeking artists or artist teams to design and implement nine site-specific sculptures or installations for the University Medical Center (UMC) in New Orleans. The artwork must be unique, permanent, and require minimal long-term maintenance. Commissions are considered separately, with budgets ranging from $30,000 for mid-size work to $400,000 for large-scale work. All budgets are inclusive of research, professional consultations, materials, fabrication, transportation, travel, insurance, installation, photography, and documentation.

Eligibility is open to professional artists 18 and over with a minimum of five years of demonstrated professional visual art experience. Artist teams may apply with one designated lead contact. All artists must submit examples of original, recently completed artwork from within the last 10 years. Applicants for the Canal Street Beacon and Tulane Icon commissions must have previous experience with large-scale outdoor sculpture. The artwork may be subject to direct sunlight and must be durable, sturdy, stable, resistant to UV damage, and safe for public interaction.

Submissions must be received electronically through the CAFÉ system by November 12, 2014 at 10:59 P.M. CT and include: résumé, letter of interest and artist statement, list of three professional references, and six images of original completed artwork. An Art Selection Committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic excellence, appropriateness of medium and experience, experience with similar projects, availability for design and implementation, and Louisiana artist status. Selected finalists will be invited to develop proposals and attend a site visit. Proposal fees of up to $2,000 (Canal Street Beacon and Tulane Icon) or $1,000 (other commissions) may be paid to offset expenses. Notifications are anticipated for January 2015.
