About This Call
"Lotus and Lion" is a group exhibition providing a platform for artists whose work is grounded in the rich traditions of Buddhist and Hindu Art while exploring contemporary applications. The exhibition seeks to expand the conversation and visibility of artists working in this field.
Artists may submit original works in painting, printmaking (including woodblocks, lithographs, intaglio, screen print, and monoprints), and sculpture. Painting and printmaking works must be ready to hang. Digital reproductions and giclée prints are not accepted. Applicants may submit 1-4 images and are encouraged to submit a cohesive body of work. The entry fee is $35. Applications are open to all artists internationally and will be co-juried by Faith Stone, founder of American Buddhist Art school and visual curator at Shoshoni Retreat, and Sarah Magnatta, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Global Contemporary Art at the University of Denver.
Selected artists will be notified by April 21, 2025, and invited artworks must arrive by May 7, 2025. The exhibition runs May 24 – September 2, 2025, with an opening reception on May 23 from 5-8pm. Shoshoni Retreat will provide exhibition documentation, an opening reception, studio visits, marketing, and curatorial advising. Works may be offered for sale; Shoshoni Retreat maintains a 40% commission on sold artwork. Artists are responsible for shipping costs unless otherwise arranged. Works will be packed and shipped back within 2 weeks of deinstallation on September 2.
