About This Call
Lotus and Lion is an exhibition providing a platform for artists whose work is grounded in the rich traditions of Buddhist and Hindu Art while exploring contemporary applications. The exhibition seeks to expand the conversation and visibility of artists working in this field. This year's show will include artwork by world renowned artists Karma Phuntsok, recognized as the father of contemporary Tibetan art, and Mayumi Oda, known as Matisse of Japan. Last year's inaugural show resulted in forty percent of available artworks being sold.
Artists are invited to submit original works in the following media: Painting, Printmaking (including woodblocks, lithographs, intaglio, screen print, collage and monoprints), Sculpture, Photography, and Mixed Media. Accepted works must be ready to display. Paintings, Printmaking and Photography may be rolled and shipped in a tube, and Lotus and Lion will arrange to hang them. Only original works are accepted—no digital reproductions or giclée prints.
The exhibition will be co-juried by Faith Stone, founder of American Buddhist Art school and visual curator at Shoshoni Retreat, and Sarah Magnatta, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Global Contemporary Art at the University of Denver School of Art and Art History. Entry fee is $35.00 for the first entry and $5.00 for each additional entry. Submissions must include 3-5 images. The event runs from June 5 to September 5, 2026, with jury dates of March 31 to April 7, 2026.
