About This Call
Lost Words: A Juried Exhibit of Art and Poetry invites visual artists and poets to respond to the theme of language, its mutability, and how words guide us through our lives. The theme follows the 2007 removal of nature words from the Oxford Children's Dictionary and the illustrated 'spell book' The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris. Artists and poets are asked to respond in any medium to language and lost words, exploring how this informs their practice.
Up to three entries of visual artwork and/or poetry may be submitted for a flat fee of $35, which includes three submissions and associated image files or PDFs. Submissions must include 1-3 images. Visual artworks may be shipped to arrive between June 1-14, 2021, or dropped off June 14-15. The exhibit opens June 17 and closes July 25. All artwork must have a label affixed to the back with artist name, phone, artwork title, medium, and price.
Awards include Jurors Choice for both Poetry and Visual Arts ($500 each), three Merit Awards in both categories ($300 each), and People's Choice Awards in both Poetry and Visual Arts ($100 each). Jurors are Leah Gerard for Visual Arts and Carmen Germain for Poetry. Notification of acceptance will be sent May 31. Ship or deliver artwork to: Northwind Art (Best Gallery), 701 Water Street, Port Townsend, WA 98368.
