About This Call

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is commissioning up to eight local artists to create site-specific installations that will bring lost spaces and stories of the estate back to life. Over the past one hundred years, nature and time have transformed Vizcaya, and many of its most whimsical spaces and stories have been lost. This two-and-a-half-year project is part of Vizcaya's Contemporary Arts Program and aims to strengthen relationships with the local arts community while providing new ways of seeing Vizcaya and demonstrating its creative origins and connections to Miami's roots.

The competition is open to emerging and established artists living in the South Florida region (Lee, Hendry, Palm Beach, Collier, Broward, Monroe and Miami-Dade counties). Applicants must have experience working within the public process, in public settings, and a proven ability to fabricate their own work or work with fabricators and installers. Attendance at one of the required Artist Info Sessions (February 2 and 25, March 2 and 25, or April 6, 2015) is required to submit a proposal. Selected artists will receive a contract fee of $8,000 to be used towards fabrication, shipping, installation, maintenance, and all other project-related expenses. Artists will be responsible for installation, de-installation, and maintenance of their work through the duration of the installation. Projects will be installed throughout 2016 and will remain on exhibit for six months to one year depending on location. All projects will remain on exhibit until spring 2017. Installations will be accompanied by public programs and featured during Art Basel Miami Beach 2016. Final artist selection will be announced by June 26, 2015.
