Lost and Found: Art with Found Objects

The Lafayette Arts & Cultural Resources Department is hosting a Call for Entry for Lost & Found: Art with Found Objects, a group exhibition featuring artwork made from recycled and/or found objects. The exhibit will hang at The Collective Community Art Center from August 18 – September 26, 2021. The exhibition will feature approximately 30 pieces of 2-dimensional, wall-hung works and 10–12 sculpture or 3-dimensional works. Aligning with the City of Lafayette's mission working towards sustainability and waste reduction, the department seeks artists skilled in the use of varied materials. Artwork should demonstrate the importance of conserving limited natural resources and show how well the medium relates to the upcycle and recycle movement and how the artist's intention or concept is presented and realized.

Entries must incorporate at least 50% of recycled, repurposed, or reused materials. Any repurposed substrate should be counted in the calculation of the percentage of recycled material. The theme of each artwork is open. Both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional works will be considered. Artists' implementation, skill, and overall artistic merit will be considered when selecting pieces. Freestanding works will be considered, with safety and stability taken into account. All works should be appropriate for all ages viewing. Eligibility is limited to Colorado-based artists.

The exhibit will be juried by a panel of Arts staff and one City of Lafayette Waste Reduction Advisory Committee representative. There is no entry fee required. Sales must be processed directly with the artist, and artists are responsible for filing their own sales tax. Artists must be able to deliver or ship artwork by Monday, August 16 and Tuesday, August 17. Submissions are due Wednesday, July 7, 2021, with notification on Wednesday, July 14, 2021. The hang date is Tuesday, August 17 (9:00 am – 5:00 pm), with an exhibit reception on Friday, August 20 (6:00 – 8:00 pm). Exhibit takedown is Monday, September 27 (9:00 am – 5:00 pm). Submit JPG images (no more than 5 per artist), an image list, list of recycled materials used, artist's statement focused on the work submitted, and artist's contact information via CaFE. All artwork must be display ready, including framing, matting, and hanging. Wall-hung works must have sturdy hanging wire compatible with the city gallery hanging system and must not exceed 25 pounds. 3-dimensional sculptural works must be sturdy and stand on their own or include a display stand.
