About This Call

Look Me in the Eye: Portraits of Kansas City is a juried exhibition running September 15 through November 29, 2019 at The Epsten Gallery in Leawood, Kansas. This exhibition seeks portraits by artists who live or work within a 60-mile radius of Kansas City. The gallery expects to exhibit work by at least 50 area artists, each of whom will receive a printed exhibition catalog. The exhibition intends to acknowledge the diversity of the Kansas City area and seeks portraits of people of all ages, ethnicities, and genders.

Eligibility is limited to area residents, defined as anyone living within 60 miles of Kansas City, including the following counties: Douglas, Johnson, Leavenworth, Linn, Miami, and Wyandotte in Kansas; and Bates, Caldwell, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Jackson, Johnson, Lafayette, Platte, and Ray in Missouri. Work must be 2D portraiture. Photography and digital print submissions are discouraged. Submissions require a brief bio, artist's statement, CV, and 1-3 images of work. The entry fee is $15 (non-refundable). Accepted artists must deliver work installation-ready between August 15-31, 2019. Notification of accepted work will be sent August 1, 2019.

Accepted work will be published in a printed catalog, with one copy provided to each exhibiting artist. Additional catalogs may be purchased for $20 each plus shipping. Work accepted for the exhibition need not be for sale, but if sold through the gallery, The Epsten Gallery retains 40% commission and remits 60% to the artist by December 15, 2019. Artwork must remain on exhibit through November 29, 2019. Return pickup or shipment occurs December 1-14, 2019. Contact: [email protected] or (913) 266-8414.
