Longview Park Sculpture

Longview Park, located near Promontory Parkway and 18th Street Road, will serve as a social and recreational space with opportunities for interaction with nature. The park will feature traditional playground equipment, nature play areas, sheltered picnic tables, a basketball court, and is accessible by foot, bicycle, or car. Two locations for permanent artwork are available: 1) at the park entrance near park signage and the playground on an existing concrete slab, or 2) in a flower bed or shrubbery near the shelters. The park is currently under construction and will be completed in 2023.

Selected artists will receive up to $20,000 to cover all costs including transportation, delivery, and installation. A concrete foundation will be provided by the City, or additional funding may be added to the budget for the artist to provide a foundation if necessary and agreed upon. One sculpture or a series of sculptures will be purchased and installed in late spring or early summer of 2023. Each artist may submit up to three sculptures for jury consideration. All forms of media and styles are acceptable if site-appropriate and require little or no maintenance. Sculptures must withstand Colorado's weather extremes and have an average life expectancy of 20-30 years.

Designs may be representational or abstract but must be appropriate to the location and setting. Artwork cannot include logos, copyrighted or trademarked images, or function as signage or advertisement. Being located in a kid-friendly environment, artwork that could be confused as playground or natural play elements will not be accepted, nor will submissions that appear to invite climbing or vandalism. The artist shall not sell full-size reproductions of the design to any public entity within 100 miles of the City of Greeley. Artists must sign an agreement with the city and complete a W-9 form. Payment in full will be requested after delivery, installation, and inspection by the City, with 3-4 weeks allowed for payment.
