About This Call

Statements of Qualifications are requested from artists and/or artist teams interested in creating a site-specific interior work of art for the Lone Tree Arts Center Lobby. The successful artist or team will contract directly with the City of Lone Tree for a unique work of art within a budget of $28,500 and specified time frame. The City seeks to enhance the beauty of the Arts Center by engaging an artist to create a lasting addition to the facility that encourages positive dialogue, establishes a strong identity for the Arts Center and its community, and evokes delight and wonder.

The work of art should celebrate the cultural community that uses the facility and the activities that happen there, create a focal point of excitement and interest, be an original site-specific stand-alone design, and draw historically from artistic movements to inspire timelessness. Submissions must demonstrate experience creating works for public spaces and include up to 8 images, a letter of interest (no more than two pages), complete contact information, an annotated slide list identifying size, title, commissioning agency, price, material, and year created, and biographical information or CV. Artists must demonstrate experience with long-term preservation and maintenance of public art, as public art projects may be exposed to various environmental factors and subject to vandalism. Materials should be durable and low-maintenance.

The Art Selection Committee will review submissions based on outstanding examples of previous work, experience working with city and county authorities for site selection and design approval, and experience working well with owners through stages of modification and refinement. Semi-finalists will be announced July 1, 2016, with interviews scheduled for August 15, 2016. An honorarium will be provided to semi-finalists selected to compensate for proposal development. The contract amount of $28,500 is inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and contingencies. Installation is scheduled for May 2017. The project is open to all artists regardless of race, color, creed, gender, national origin, age, religion, or other protected status.
