About This Call
Logan City is seeking qualifications from artists and artist teams interested in creating a site-specific sculpture for the public plaza near the west entrance of the new Logan Library. The sculpture will be installed on an 8' x 8' concrete pad that will serve as the focal point of the plaza, which will also include gathering spaces, raised and ground level planters, and pathways connecting the library to other municipal buildings. Logan City desires a sculpture that highlights the library as a place of learning and community and is complementary to the architecture of the new library.
The selection committee, consisting of members of the Logan City Public Art Advisory Board and other appointed members, will review application materials and select semi-finalists to submit design proposals. All semi-finalists will receive a $500 honorarium to help defray proposal development costs, which will be applied toward the final commission amount. Selection will be based on artistic excellence, demonstration of skill and quality craftsmanship, and the strength and originality of concept. The project budget is $30,000 to $40,000.
Applications must include a Vision Statement (maximum 2000 characters), digital images of similar public art projects (no more than 10), a current resume, and three professional references. Semi-finalists will be invited to submit a design proposal including project proposal, timeline, budget, and one to six images or renderings. This call is open to all artists, with preference given to regional artists residing within 500 miles of Logan. Artists and team members must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States. Upon selection and final design approval, the artist or team must complete a contract with the City of Logan, and all finished work must be faithful to the approved drawings, design, and concept.
