About This Call

Logan City is seeking submissions from artists and artist teams to create murals for display on construction fencing in Downtown Logan. The Downtown Logan Mural Beautification Project on Fences is designed to improve the aesthetics of temporary construction fencing by hanging banner murals along the fencing during the construction of a new library and plaza. The murals are anticipated to be displayed during summer months for the next 2 years, depending on mural condition.

Selected artists will create and paint a 4'x10' mural on a canvas banner provided by Logan City. The artist must have at least 33% of the mural surface painted by community members at a scheduled public event. The artist is required to attend and coordinate the painting at one community painting event. Potential events include the Cache Farmers Market, Center Street Latino Festival, or other approved events. Murals must be painted with durable acrylic or latex paints, sealed with waterproofing, and include a "U" cut every 2' to permit wind to pass through.

The project theme is "Building Community." Logan City's downtown is a nexus for the diverse community, and murals should reflect that diversity and demonstrate how residents have contributed to building the community. The total contract amount for all applicable expenses, including design, execution, transportation, site preparation, installation, and materials, shall not exceed $1,200. A blank canvas banner will be provided to all selected artists. This project is funded by Logan City and the Utah Legislature through a grant from the Utah Division of Arts & Museums.

Applications must include a Vision Statement (maximum 2000 characters) describing the artist's interest and ideas for the project and how they will address the project theme, digital images of similar public art projects (no more than 10 images), a current resume outlining professional accomplishments, and three references with names, professional titles, phone numbers, and email addresses. The selection committee will review applications and select up to six artists based on artistic excellence, skill, quality craftsmanship, and how well they address the project theme. Preference will be given to local artists residing within Cache, Rich, or Box Elder County. This call is open to all Utah artists. Artist/artist team members must be at least 18 years of age and legally residing and authorized to work in the United States.
