Local Cloth: Project Handmade 2014

Local Cloth Inc. will host its second regional wearable-art fashion show and artist showcase on September 11, 2014 at 7 pm at Diana Wortham Theatre in downtown Asheville, NC. Textile artists and fashion designers within a 100-mile radius of Asheville are invited to create garments and ensembles following the theme of Project Handmade 2014: Texture & Movement.

Any type of textile or fiber art technique may be used, including weaving, sewing, knitting, felting, dying, and printing. The focus is on locally produced and/or repurposed materials. Although garments are not required to include 100% local materials, a $300 cash prize will be awarded for the best use of local fiber and/or resources. Entries must have been completed since October 2012. Individual artists or collaborating teams may enter up to five complete garments or ensembles. All entries must be complete looks. Artists who specialize in fashion accessories are eligible but should collaborate with other local artists or designers to dress models fully in locally handmade garments. Entries will be judged based on digital images.

Entry deadline is June 15, 2014. Entry fees are $30 for one complete look, plus $5 for each additional look up to a maximum of five. Notification of acceptance will be July 10, 2014, with accepted entries due by August 15, 2014. Accepted artists who are members in good standing of Local Cloth Inc. will be invited to display and/or sell work at a reception immediately following the fashion show for no additional fee. Accepted artists must pay 2014 Local Cloth dues by August 10, 2014 to participate in the showcase. Work sample requirements: 1-5 images, 1-5 total samples.
