About This Call
The New Mexico Fiber Arts Center is sponsoring the New Mexico Fiber Crawl, with an invitational and juried exhibition organized in collaboration with Form & Concept. The exhibit titled Live Wire will showcase fiber work from across the country and will be nationally advertised.
Live Wire will explore fiber's remarkable ability to conduct world-changing ideological currents, examining how fiber has been used throughout history in social and political movements—from Betsy Ross stitching the American flag to contemporary fiber artists providing platforms for activism. The exhibit opens Friday, May 1, 2020, at 5:00 pm with a public reception at Form & Concept (435 S. Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, NM 87501) and closes June 13, 2020. At least a third of the work in the exhibit will be created by New Mexican artists.
Fiber artists from around the United States are eligible to submit. Work must be original fiber art created within the past three years, not previously exhibited in Santa Fe, and must be for sale. Entry fee is $25.00. Up to three entries may be submitted with two images per entry (one full image and one detail/close-up). Images must be high resolution (300dpi) and print quality in jpg or pdf format, labeled with artist's last name, title, and year. Also submit a bio (200 words maximum) and artist statement responding to the theme (200 words maximum). Form & Concept's commission is 50 percent of the sale price. Work sold during the exhibit must remain on display until June 13, 2020, unless otherwise agreed. The jury will announce acceptances on April 1, 2020. Work delivery is April 21-24, 2020. Artists are responsible for shipping costs and insurance in transit. Form & Concept will insure work during the exhibit. Work must be shipped in sturdy reusable containers and received in ready-to-exhibit condition. Wall pieces may not weigh more than 50 pounds. Work will be returned June 16 through July 15, 2020.
