Live Painting Commission - Green Street Grand Opening

The City of Lee's Summit Cultural Arts Division seeks to commission a live painting demonstration by a visual artist or artist team to create a one-of-a-kind painting in honor of the Green Street Grand Opening. The artist or team would create a live painting demonstration on Saturday, August 16th, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with the artwork to be completed by the end of that day. The canvas will be 48" x 60" and provided by the city. The artist is required to bring additional materials such as paint, brushes, and other necessary items. Once approved, the artwork will be displayed in the new Green Street Market.

Green Street is a mixed-use development project in downtown Lee's Summit featuring a new farmer's market, event space, outdoor performance area, and plaza. The Grand Opening will showcase the space with food trucks, movies, makers space, games, and roving buskers. Artists must be residents within the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area (Jackson, Platte, Cass, and Clay counties in Missouri and Douglas, Johnson, and Wyandotte counties in Kansas).

The selected artist will receive an all-inclusive commission fee of $700 following acceptance of the artwork into the City's collection. The City of Lee's Summit will be responsible for installing and caring for the final product. Application deadline is July 15th, 2025. Submissions must include a letter of intent (up to 1 page), three professional references (up to 1 page), brief resume or biographical information (up to 2 pages), and work samples (5-10 images and/or up to 2 audio and/or 2 video files in JPEG or PDF format, no more than 1200 pixels on longest side, less than 5MB per image). The Selection Panel will evaluate applicants based on artistic excellence, relevant prior experience, clear understanding of the project, and ability to meet the project timeline and budget.
