Lip Service

Lip Service is a national juried exhibition of drinking vessels open to all artists over 18 residing within the United States and Canada. The exhibition will feature 100 drinking vessels by artists from across the country, including cups, mugs, teabowls, yunomi, shot cups, martini cups, bourbon cups, wine goblets, espresso mugs, tumblers and more. Selected through a jurying process by nationally renowned Massachusetts-based potter Mary Barringer, the exhibition seeks a diverse array of objects that invite use and handling, made for different hands, different aesthetics and different liquids.

All works must be primarily ceramic; mixed media works will be accepted only when clay is the dominant material. Artists may submit up to 5 pieces of artwork with 1 optional detail image per entry. The entry fee is $30 per entry (for up to 5 works). Submissions must include an artist statement (1000 characters), biography (1000 characters), and for each image: title, description of clay body and process/firing methods, photographic credit, retail price (includes 50% commission), dimensions in inches (H x W x D), weight in lbs., and date of completion. All works must be available for sale; SCAC will retain a 50% commission. A Juror's Choice Award ($300) and a Director's Choice Award ($100) will be announced during the Opening Reception.

Artists are responsible for shipping or delivery of work to Saratoga Clay Arts Center, 167 Hayes Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871, and must include a pre-paid return label. Shipped/delivered work must arrive between April 27–May 4, 2020; hand-delivered work between May 2–4, 11am–4pm. The exhibition runs May 9–June 13, 2020, with an opening reception on Saturday, May 9, 5–7pm. Hand pickup is available June 14–16, 2020, 11am–4pm. SCAC will provide insurance coverage for work on their premises for market value; artists are responsible for insurance in transit. Participating artists must agree to allow SCAC and gallery visitors to photograph work for educational and publicity purposes.
