About This Call
SFVACC invites artists and photographers to submit work for Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My! (formally Call of the Wild), an online exhibition celebrating artistic relationships with flora and fauna in nature. From buzzing insects and soaring birds to majestic animals and lush plant life, submissions should showcase creative interpretations of the wild world. Whether inspiration comes from a backyard garden, mountain trail, or distant safari, artists are encouraged to honor wildlife near and far, give voice to environmental concerns, or celebrate the beauty of the natural world.
Eligibility is open to artists and photographers working in all media except AI-generated work. Submissions are limited to six original artworks per artist as high-resolution JPEGs (.JPG, 1-5MB) in the following media: drawing, mixed media, collage, printmaking, fiber art, photography, painting, digital art, and sculpture. Entry fee is $40 for the first artwork, with up to five additional entries at $5 each. The entry deadline is August 10, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Acceptance notifications will be sent August 23-24, 2025, with the exhibit opening September 12, 2025 and closing October 31, 2025.
Awards include Best of Show ($800), 1st Place ($400), 2nd Place ($300), and up to four Honorable Mentions. The juror is Pat Bates, a wildlife photographer and board member of the San Fernando Valley Audubon. All sales are handled directly between artist and buyer with no commission to SFVACC. Artwork must be original, not previously shown at SFVACC exhibits, and must remain online for the duration of the exhibit.
