About This Call

The City of Rochester is seeking artists or artist teams to create artwork as an integral part of the Link Rapid Transit station designs. This is an open call to artists working locally, regionally, and nationally. Art is envisioned to represent the past, present, and future of Rochester, celebrating the diverse community, cultures, environment, and seasons. Artists will be responsible for planning and leading community engagement activities to inform artwork development and will collaborate closely with architectural designers. The design team will provide technical input on aesthetics and durability and prepare construction documents. Up to four artists or artist teams are anticipated to join the larger design team.

Applicants must submit an artist statement addressing: why art in Rochester's civic space is important (250 words max), how they foster collaboration and past collaborative experience (500 words max), and strategies for developing artwork concepts within allocated budgets and timeframes (250 words max). Work samples in electronic format are required (1-6 images, 0-2 videos, total 1-8 samples, not exceeding 15MB). Two informational pre-proposal conferences will be held online on May 25, 2022 at 12:00 pm and June 13, 2022 at 12:00 pm, featuring a 20-minute project overview followed by 40 minutes of Q&A.

Eligibility is open to professional artists regardless of race, color, religion, gender, age, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability. Individuals employed by or affiliated with the City of Rochester, the design team, or the art advisory committee are not eligible. The budget is $60,000 per station platform with 12 platforms total. Contact Michael Jischke at [email protected] or 763-267-6600 for inquiries.
