About This Call
The Lighthouse ArtCenter of Tequesta, Florida presents its 10th Annual Plein Air Festival, March 5-11, 2023. This juried competition is the largest of its kind in South Florida, featuring five days and nights of painting in Jupiter, Juno Beach, Port Salerno, and Palm Beach with opportunities to paint sunrises, sunsets, and nocturnes at locations featuring park settings, ocean views, vintage Floridian architecture, and the Jupiter Lighthouse.
Juried artists compete for $15,000 in cash and awards, with a Grand Prize of $4,000 cash plus additional prizes. The event includes a Paint Out contest (first prize $500, with awards for both Professionals and Open Class), Artist Orientation and Welcome Lunch, Collectors' Party and Sale, small works sale, and a live painting event called Battle of the Brushes. Thirty juried artists will participate. Artists are encouraged to bring up to four never-before-exhibited paintings to be displayed in the Schorr Gallery. The Lighthouse ArtCenter provides housing assistance through its Host Housing Program.
Artists must submit four samples of their best plein air work for juried consideration. The competition is open to all artists working with oil, acrylic, watercolor, or pastels. Entry fee is $40. Artists selected to participate will receive a detailed information booklet after notification on September 9, 2022. Artists receive 60% of sales, with 40% commission to the Lighthouse ArtCenter. Unsold artwork must be removed by 5 pm on March 11, 2023; storage fees of $5 per day apply after that date, and artwork becomes ArtCenter property after 30 days.
