Light on the Easel - A Study of Light and Shadow

The Rice Gallery of Fine Art is accepting submissions for its 9th Annual National Juried Show. This year's theme is Light on the Easel - A Study of Light & Shadow. The gallery seeks original paintings that feature light and shadow as a primary component of the composition and/or subject. Examples include sunrise and sunset landscapes, still life and interior paintings with unique lighting sources, nocturnes, and paintings created at the magic or blue hour. There is no restriction on subject matter as long as light (or the absence of light) plays a primary role in the composition. Eligible works can be landscapes, cityscapes, portraits, still life, interiors, and more. All original painting styles are welcome. No photographs or reproductions are permitted.

Artists may submit 1 to 5 images of original paintings. The unframed size of each painting should not exceed 30 inches at its longest dimension. The entry fee is $35 (non-refundable). All selected paintings will be exhibited and promoted for sale both in person and online. All paintings selected for the exhibition are eligible for cash prizes, including a $1,500 Best of Show Prize. Selected works will be featured in an exclusive gallery exhibition at The Rice Gallery of Fine Art from February 16 to March 23, 2024, and will also be included in the gallery's online store and promoted via social media.

Juried selections will be announced on January 15, 2024. Selected paintings must be received by February 5, 2024 via local delivery or shipment. All selected works are considered consigned inventory and must be for sale. The Rice Gallery collects a 45% commission on any paintings sold. Artists are responsible for all shipping expenses and insurance to and from the gallery. Unsold work will be returned via shipment or local pickup after the exhibition closes on March 23, 2024.
