Lies: Colorado Photographic Arts Center Juried Exhibition

The Colorado Photographic Arts Center invites photographers to explore themes related to lies and the effect that misinformation has on our culture. Photography has a complex relationship to truth that leads back to the invention of the medium. From spirit photography to digital manipulation, photography has had to battle with an image that includes both reality and deception. This juried exhibition seeks work that talks about the prevalence of lies as a way to find important truth about ourselves.

Entry is open to regional, national, and international artists, members and non-members of CPAC. All lens-based media are eligible, including images made by film or video camera, scanner, screen-capture, digital camera, and any means of mobile photography. Applicants must submit between 3 and 13 total samples: 1-10 images and 0-3 videos. Entry fees are $30 for members and $35 for non-members for up to 3 images; $4 per additional image for members and $5 for non-members. Exhibition print sizes must be specified but there is no size limit. CPAC understands that work may be presented in a non-traditional way that is integral to the art; contact the center in advance if your work fits these criteria.

Notice of acceptance will be sent July 23, 2018. Work must be received by the gallery by Friday, August 24, 2018, ready-to-hang with necessary hardware for installation. The exhibition runs August 31 – October 6, 2018, with an opening reception on Friday, August 31, 2018, 6-9pm. The exhibition juror is Richard McCabe, curator of photography at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Exhibiting artists pay for round-trip shipping and must use reusable packing materials. CPAC will charge a 40% sales commission on work sold. Works will be insured while on the premises of CPAC, but CPAC cannot be responsible for damage or loss during transit.
