About This Call

Liberty's Public Art Sculpture Program is in its third year and is a way to expand a permanent collection of public art by featuring additional pieces on display for a limited period of time. Up to nine sculptures will be selected for installation in 2019, with display running from September 2019 through September 2020.

All work entered must be freestanding and resilient to variant temperatures and outdoor elements for long-term public display. Pieces must be aesthetically appropriate for public places with priority given to safety (no sharp edges, points, breakable components, climbing hazards, or barbed wire) and durability. Sculptures must be able to be structurally secured to a concrete pad with bolts and can be made from metal, wood, plastic, stone, ceramic, or other durable materials that withstand regional temperatures ranging from 120°F to -30°F. Selected artists will receive a $2,000 honorarium as well as public recognition and an opportunity for sales. The City of Liberty has the option to purchase at least one piece, which would become part of the City's permanent collection at a price up to $15,000 less the honorarium.

The program is open to all artists regardless of location who are at least 18 years of age. Artists are responsible for insurance, transportation, installation, and removal of artwork. Selected artwork must be installed by September 20, 2019 and removed by September 1, 2020. Applicants may submit up to three works for consideration. Each entry requires three digital images, artist name, entry title, materials, dimensions, anchoring method, completion date, description (one paragraph), artist statement, brief biography, professional resume, asking price, and proof of general liability insurance if selected. Submissions are juried by a panel including business and education professionals from the Liberty area. Selected artists may be interviewed by phone and must enter into a contractual agreement with the City of Liberty.
