Liberadores / Liberators

The Liberadores / Liberators Project brings together artists, historians, activists and diplomats to honor and celebrate the legacy of liberation as part of Denver's inaugural Biennial of the Americas, In Good We Trust. The project will showcase artists' interpretations of the liberation narrative as it impacts their lives, countries and communities from throughout the Americas, North and South.

The struggle for liberation is a continuing theme that unites the Americas, from the founding fathers of the United States and El Grito de Dolores in Mexico to the legacy of Simon Bolivar throughout South America. The Liberadores / Liberators theme is a call for action and hope for contemporary times and the continent.

Artists from all disciplines throughout North and South America are eligible to present visual art, project proposals or performance concepts that relate to the Liberadores / Liberators theme. Priority will be given to artists from Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Argentina, who will be eligible to receive an honorarium and project expenses through support from the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs and Museo de las Americas. The museum will work with all other selected artists to facilitate presentation of their work in Denver. Artists who wish to submit video media must submit a completed application including five (5) still images and send supporting media files on a DVD or CD to Museo de las Americas, 861 Santa Fe Drive, Denver, CO 80204.
