About This Call

The City of Denver's Public Art Program and the Levitt Pavilion Art Selection Panel are seeking artists for a public art project at the Levitt Pavilion at Ruby Hill Park in southwest Denver. The ultimate vision establishes Levitt Pavilion and Ruby Hill Park as a family-friendly event destination, with the public art component located near the pavilion to enhance the visitor experience.

Ruby Hill Park is one of Denver's oldest parks, located adjacent to the Platte River. The park is undergoing transformation to include a mountain bike course, a new loop trail for biking and running, and the Levitt Pavilion, which will hold dozens of free concerts throughout the year highlighting Colorado's musical talent, as well as admission-based concerts and private events. The surrounding neighborhoods include Athmar Park, Ruby Hill-Goodsman, Overland, Baker, Garfield, and College View.

The artwork should be a unique, one-of-a-kind piece appropriate for Ruby Hill Park and its diverse community. The selection panel seeks work that speaks to community-based connections, music, the sky, and celestial themes. Artwork may be in all media and materials, including light and sound, except 2-D artworks and murals. The primary location is in close exterior proximity to the pavilion or integrated into the pavilion's architecture. Artists should demonstrate experience integrating artwork into the built environment. All artwork must be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for public exposure to weather, physical stresses, and potential vandalism.

Applicants must submit six digital images, a résumé, and a statement of interest (no longer than 2,000 characters) via www.callforentry.org. Up to five semifinalists will be selected for interviews with the panel. If a formal proposal is requested, the artist will receive an honorarium to prepare and present the proposal in person. Semifinalists must submit a Diversity & Inclusiveness Form. The selected artist or team will collaborate with Public Art Program staff and the Levitt Pavilion design team to finalize designs for installation.

This project is open to Colorado residents regardless of race, color, creed, gender, gender variance, sexual orientation, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion or affiliation, or mental or physical disability. Artists working in any media are eligible. Previous public art experience is not required, and emerging artists are encouraged to apply. The artwork must be fabricated in Colorado. The budget for this commission is up to $40,000 USD, inclusive of all costs including design fees, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and other project-related expenses. Prevailing wage requirements apply for all work done on city property.
