Let Me Eat Cake, Please!

Shoebox Arts invites submissions for "Let Me Eat Cake, Please!" - the third iteration of this national open call exhibition at Shoebox at the Brewery in the Brewery Arts Complex in Los Angeles. The exhibition will transform the gallery into an immersive environment celebrating food art, with walls covered floor to ceiling with work that explores sweetness, indulgence, culinary pleasure, hunger, satisfaction, comfort, and joy through the lens of desserts and culinary delights. The exhibition coincides with the Brewery's October 2025 artwalk, which draws over 10,000 visitors. The gallery will be open to the public during artwalk hours and by appointment.

Submissions must be food-focused art only. Accepted media includes paintings, photography, mixed media, and small wall-hung sculptures. Work must be 24"H x 24"W x 6"D or smaller and wired for hanging. Artists may submit 3-15 images for a $32 entry fee, with an additional $5 media fee per image beyond the first 3. All exhibited works will be offered for sale with proceeds split 50% to the artist, 40% to Shoebox Arts, and 10% to the National Alliance for Eating Disorders. Sales proceeds will be sent within 30 days of the exhibition's close.

Key dates: Submission deadline is September 12, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Accepted artists will be notified by September 15, 2025. Shipped work must arrive by September 26, 2025. Hand delivery is available September 28, 2025, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The exhibition opens October 3 and closes October 26, 2025. Artwork pickup is October 26, 2025, 6-7 p.m. Eligibility: Open to U.S. residents, age 18 and older. Artists with financial need may request an entry fee waiver by emailing [email protected].
