About This Call
This is an invitational call for the Lentz Public Health Center Public Art Project. Three semi-finalists will each receive a $2,500 commission, which includes travel expenses for a site visit to Nashville, development of a concept proposal, and presentation of the proposal to the selection committee.
The total artwork budget is $250,000 for one artwork or multiple related artworks. This budget covers artists' fees, overhead and operating costs, fabrication costs, all project-related travel, installation costs, site preparation costs, insurance, contingency, and any other artist-related costs. The artwork should reflect the values of the Metro Public Health Department, encourage physical activity and use of the stairs, and provide a focal point for the multi-story lobby. Secondary goals include considering the overall site context, resonating with people of all ages and backgrounds, being captivating and encouraging interaction, and offering meaningful viewing from multiple vantage points.
The new Lentz Public Health Center is located at 2500 Charlotte Avenue and is scheduled to open in June 2014. Selection will be based on artistic merit, context appropriateness, relevant experience, permanence and maintenance considerations, technical feasibility, and ability to perform according to schedule and budget. This RFP is by invitation only and open to professional artists previously approved by the Public Art Committee of the Metro Nashville Arts Commission. Submissions must be received via online entry on CaFE at www.callforentry.org using the invitational passcode. Required materials include a brief artwork description, six digital images of the concept proposal, technical information and materials description, and a detailed budget. Site visits for semi-finalists are scheduled for July 24 and August 7, 2013, with presentations to the selection panel in early October 2013 and artist selection notification by the end of October 2013.
